In Hue, Vietnam we’d heard about a ~creepy~ abandoned waterpark you could still walk around. Ho Thuy Tien Waterpark was built in 2004 and swiftly abandoned a few years later. Amazingly, still nothing has been done with the land and the whole thing has been left exactly as it was. We weren’t sure exactly where it was but we had a vague idea of the location. From the Vietnam Backpacker Hostel in Hue, we hired pushbikes and set off on a 20 minute bike ride there.
When we got there, there was a lady at the gate collecting ‘entrance fees’ of 10,000 dong. Now, you shouldn’t really have to pay an entrance fee but it’s not very much money, and I kind of admire her entrepreneurial spirit. Plus, our friend tried to cycle on through and a large man that was also at the gate promptly blocked her sooo we didn’t really have an option.
Once you’re inside Ho Thuy Tien, there are loads of different parts you can get to, there’s a large structure in the shape of a dragon you can climb up, with an abandoned aquarium inside. There are still slides and pools of (gross) water that some Vietnamese kids were playing in, and a theatre and an abandoned spaceship simulator ride. There are quite a few tourists here so it’s not really got that super creepy vibe, but as a massive pussy I was actually very happy with that. I’ll leave you with the photos:
