On our very first day our flight got in at about 9:45 and we took the bus and metro to where we were staying, Comebackpackers Hostel in Kreuzberg.
Which, to our horror, was up what felt like 50 flights of stairs. It’s quite a large hostel with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere.
We dumped our bags and went to find lunch in Kreuzberg. It was quite a weird place with not many options, we were hoping for pizza but wandered out so far and couldn’t find anyway. In the end we ended up at a cafe right opposite the hostel, eating a pesto, mozzarella and tomato ciabatta.
After lunch we went back for 2pm check-in, got ready and took the metro into the centre of Berlin. We started at the Berliner Dom – the Berlin Cathedral Church, the largest church in the city.
Inside was very impressive. Below you can see the main altar.
We went down to the crypt, containing the tombs of Prussian royals, which was eerily cold and dark and quiet.
Then we walked allll the way to the top of the dome. I can’t remember how many steps this was exactly but it was a LOT. But the views at the top were worth it and I’m sure it did our bums the world of good.
Then we spent the rest of the day wandering around looking a the museums and had of course had the classic German dish pizza for dinner.
